Poland, beaten 3:2 in Northern Ireland on Saturday, cruised into a 4:0 half-time lead against Group 3 bottom team San Marino thanks to two goals from Rafal Boguski, one by Smolarek and another from Robert Lewandowski. The visiting defence was penetrated six more times in the second period through Smolarek (three), Ireneusz Jelen, Mariusz Lewandowski and Marek Saganowski.

"I am happy about the four goals. It shows I want to be an important part of the team," said Smolarek.

"We demostrated a heroic and tactical defence," said Bosnia coach Miroslav Blazevic.

Slovakia shook off neighbours and arch-rivals Czech Republic with a 2:1 win in a 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa qualifier in Prague. The Slovaks regained self-confidence 22 minutes into the game when Stanislav Sestak put them ahead with a low shot from close range following a series of blunders in the Czech defence. The Czechs came back in the 30th minute when Liverpool centre-back Martin Skrtel deflected a corner into his own net, but Erik Jendrisek gave the Slovaks the win in the 83th minute.

Honduras posted a convincing 3-1 victory over Mexico on Wednesday in North and Central America and Caribbean qualifying for the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa. Honduras notched their first victory in three matches, taking their points total to four and breathing life into their qualifying hopes after losing to Costa Rica and drawing at Trinidad and Tobago on Saturday. Mexico remained on three points thanks to their victory over Costa Rica at the Azteca Stadium on Saturday. They had lost to USA in their opening match in February.

6 - 1 D. Torrico 86'

Bolivia ended Argentina's 100 per cent record under Diego Maradona in emphatic fashion with a 6:1 victory in 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa qualifying.

Argentina's misery was completed when substitute Angel di Maria was sent off after only seven minutes on the pitch. Maradona's team have 19 points from 12 games in the 10-team South American Zone while Bolivia have 12 points.

Maradona, who avoided blaming the altitude of La Paz which lies 3,600 metres above sea level, gave credit to his opponents and said he suffered alongside the Argentine public. Before becoming Argentina coach, Maradona had backed Bolivia's campaign on matches at high altitude, taking part in a charity match in La Paz alongside President Evo Morales last year. The ban was later overturned.

"I suffered with them (the Argentine public), every Bolivia goal was a stab in my heart. If we had dreamed this was going to happen before the game, we would have thought it was impossible," Maradona told reporters.
