Football, Champions League: Chelsea - FC Barcelona

2009-05-05
Wednesday evening at Stamford Bridge London: The second game of this year's Uefa Champions League semi finals between Chelsea and Barcelona - only Barca is able to prevent a purely english final in Rome. To do so the team of Josep "Pep" Guardiola have to score at least one goal, in this case a draw would already be sufficient for the catalans to go to the final in Rome. Chelsea on the other side will have to win this game if they want to go to the final, a draw would only be enough to go to the penalties, in the best case...

In any case the game at Stamford Bridge will be a very different one from the one we saw at Camp Nou last week, as this time the blues can't limit themselves to defending as they did in Barcelona. Guus Hiddink's strategy was probably the best one for the away game (0-0), but at home Chelsea will have to show a lot more. This will certainly also mean more space for Barca and their stars Messi, Eto'o and Henry.

In fact, Pep Guardiola has said that he is rather optimistic for the game in London and he has promissed that his team will attack like they have done at home. He will certainly have to change his defense, as Puyol and Rafael Marquez will not play.

In this season, Barcelona is still unbeaten in all Champions League's away games and they have won four out of their last seven games in England, which is not bad at all.
Chelsea too are unbeaten at Stamford Bridge since 2006, the last away team who has beaten them at home in Champions League was... Barcelona (2-1 in February 2006). Let's see how things are going this time...
