Football, Krstajic feel that is Partizan create something good

Partizan football club have begun their preparations for the next season, with a squad that now boasts athe former Schalke 04 captain Mladen Krstajic. The experienced defender has joined Slavisa Jokanovic’s team and become the biggest summer signing of the Serbian champions thus far.

After the initial address from president Dragan Djuric and sporting director Ivan Tomic, the team held a first training session – an hour-long affair at 32 degrees. Krstajic, cheerful and upbeat taking up his new job, explained after the practice his decision to return to the Serbian football.

“I’ve come back to Partizan after playing in Germany for nine years and I can say I am very pleased about it. The team is managed by the people who used to be my teammates at Partizan back in the day, and so I never had any doubts whether or not to accept Partizan’s offer. I didn’t make any conditions, I just decided to return and finish my career in Partizan,” said Krstajic.

Besides Partizan, clubs like PSV Eindhoven and Munchen 1860, had expressed their interest to acquire Krstajic.

“There were no concrete offers. It’s true I’ve talked with the officials from those clubs, as they were interested to hear whether I would play for them. To be honest, at the age of 35 I felt like moving on after spending nine years in Germany.”
Krstajic says he will always find motivation to play in the Partizan shirt.

I’ve joined a young and ambitious team, which has dominated the domestic league for the past two years. The goal remains the same this season – to win both domestic competitions and go as far as we can in Europe. That is a new challenge for me. I have the ambition to achieve as much as we can with this Partizan team.

One of the main reasons why Partizan had decided to bring Krstajic is his experience.

I can surely aid the team with my experience, but there are other experienced players like Gavrancic and Djordjevic. I must add that fitness will not be an issue for me. It’s important that we now – at the start of the season – create a positive atmosphere, because we need to have one apart from quality.
