EURO 2008 - Preview Group C

Group C of the EURO 2008 will be played in Switzerland (Zürich and Bern). The four teams of Group C are Netherlands, Italy, Romania and France.

Fixtures:
9.6.2008: Romania vs. France and Netherlands vs. Italy
13.6.2008: Italy vs. Romania and Netherlands vs. France
17.6.2008: Netherlands vs. Romania and France vs. Italy


The Teams of Group C:

Netherlands: Sqaud without Boulahrouz

On Wednesday Marco van Basten, Netherlands coach, has selected his 23-man squad for UEFA EURO 2008. Khalid Boulahrouz (Sevilla) was eliminated from the Netherlands squad in the last moment. Bondscoach Van Basten gave Mario Melchiot (Wigan Athletic) the preference.

On last Sunday, manager Van Basten had dropped goalkeeper Sander Boschker and midfield player Denny Landzaat from his squad.

Allready on 12th May Clarence Seedorf (AC Mailand) has asked Van Basten to be withdrawn from the Netherlands squad for EURO08. Seedorf has scored eleven goals in 87 international matches for Netherlands.

Netherlands faces in Group C on Italy (9.6.), France (13.6.) and Romania (17.6.).

Italy: Sqaud with forwards Cassano and Del Piero

Italian coach Roberto Donadoni has nominated his final 23-man squad for the European championship 2008. Completely surprisingly: Antonio Cassano (Sampdoria) stands in the Italian squad. Cassano has been selected for the first time since September 2006.

Also Juventus captain Alessandro Del Piero is included after scoring 21 goals this season in the Italien Serie A (topscorer of the league). However, there is no place in the Italian squad for AC Milan forward Filippo Inzaghi.

Italy meets in Group C on Netherlands (9.6.), Romania (13.6.) and France (17.6.).

Romania: Coach Piturca nominates final squad

Romania coach Victor Piturca has announced his 23-man squad for EURO 2008 in Austria and Switzerland with Florin Bratu (Dinamo Bucharest) missing out on the final cut.

In the Romanian squad for the tournament in Austria and Switzerland also stands number one keeper Bogdan Lobont (Dinamo Bucharest), as well as Romanian team leader Christian Chivu of the Italian champion Inter Mailand.

Reservekeeper Daniel Coman from Rapid Bucharest (thumb break) as well as his team colleague and midfield player Ovidiu Petre (knee injury) are missing in the 23-man squad.

Romania faces in Group C on France (9.6.), Italy (13.6.) and Netherlands (17.6.).

France: Trezeguet not nominated for EURO08 in Austria and Switzerland

French Manager Raymond Domenech has nominated his final 23-players squad. Due to a long controversy between Domenech and Juvetus Turin striker David Trezeguet, Raymond Domenech didn't call Trezeguet to the french squad.

Instead of golden-boot-winner in 2000 Raymond Domenech called up Bafetimbi Gomis of AS St. Etienne. Gomis has scored both goals on his debut at the 2:0-friendly win against Ecuador.

Further the nomination brought no surprise and Domenech put all superstars on his list.

France will face in group C on world champion Italy (9.6.), Netherlands (13.6.) and Romania (17.6).
