Sweden: Superstar Henrik Larsson is called up for EURO 2008

Manager Lars Lagerbäck has called up his final squad for UEFA EURO 2008 with a small surprise. Veteran forward Henrik Larsson was nominated into the 23-player squad and celebrates with the EURO08 in Austria and Switzerland a comeback for the Swedish national team.

The 36-year-old striker retired from international football following the FIFA World Cup 2006 in Germany, but remained in Lagerbäck's thoughts as he continued to impress at his team Helsingborg in Sweden.

Other surprises were scarce. Fredrik Stoor (Rosenborg) got the preference before Peter Larsson (Halmstad), and Johan Wiland (IF Elfsborg) claiming the third goalkeeping position.

Sweden faces in Group D on European Champion Greece (June 10), Spain (June 14) and Russia (June 18).

Sweden squad:
Goalkeepers: Andreas Isaksson (Manchester City), Rami Shaaban (Hammarby), Johan Wiland (IF Elfsborg)

Spain: Aragones nominates squad without Raul Gonzales Blanco

Without top-striker Raul Gonzales Blanco, but with 2 new players Spain will come to the EURO 2008 in Austria and Switzerland. Teammanager Luis Aragones nominates Santi Cazorla (FC Villareal) and Sergio Garcia (Real Zaragoza) to his 23-players squad.

The spanish champion Real Madrid has only two players in this squad, Iker Casillas and Sergio Ramos. Liverpool and Valencia are the teams with the most spanish team players, followed by FC Barcelona with 3 players.

As expected Raul Blanco – with 18 goals this saison – gets no invitation to the EURO 2008 tournament. Also not in the spanish squad is Bojan Krkic. The 17-year-old striker from FC Barcelona was not named to the EURO08 by his own wish.

Spain faces in Group D the teams of Russia (10.6.), Sweden (14.6.) and cupholder Greece (18.6.) and counts as one of the top favourites.

Spain squad:
Goalkeepers: Iker Casillas (Real Madrid), Pepe Reina (Liverpool), Andrés Palop (Sevilla)

Defenders: Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid), Álvaro Arbeloa (Liverpool), Carles Puyol (FC Barcelona), Carlos Marchena (Valencia), Raúl Albiol (Valencia), Juanito Gutiérrez (Betis Sevilla), Joan Capdevilla (Villarreal), Fernando Navarro (Mallorca)

Midfielders: Marcos Senna (Villarreal), Xabi Alonso (Liverpool), Xavi Hernández (FC Barcelona), Cesc Fábregas (Arsenal), Andrés Iniesta (FC Barcelona), Rubén De la Red (Getafe), David Silva (Valencia), Santi Cazorla (Villarreal)

Forwards: David Villa (Valencia), Daniel Güiza (Mallorca), Sergio García (Real Zaragoza), Fernando Torres (Liverpool)

Russia: Hiddink called up his final squad

Russian Teammanager Guus Hiddink has called up his 23-player squad for the EURO 2008 in Austria and Switzerland. Last Midfielders Aleksandr Pavlenko (Spartak Moskva) and Oleg Ivanov (Krylya Samara) have missed the cut.

National coach Guus Hiddink trusts almost exclusively on players, who are engaged in the Russian league. Only Ivan Saenko (1. FC Nürnberg) plays not in the Russian league.

A few days before the EM08 starts Russia fears for striker Pavel Pogrebnyak from UEFA-Cup-Winner St. Petersburg. Pogrebnyak picked up the injury (problem with meniscus in left knee) in last friendly match against Serbia on Wednesday (2:1-win).

Russia meets in Group D on Spain (June 10), Greece (June 14) and Sweden (June 18).

Russia squad:
Goalkeepers: Igor Akinfeev (CSKA Moskva), Vladimir Gabulov (Amkar Perm), Vyacheslav Malafeev (Zenit St. Petersburg)
