Football, UEFA Champions League, Partizan crush Rhyl
|
2009-07-15
Rhyl's European adventure looks to be over after they were comprehensively beaten by Partizan Belgrade in the first leg of their Champions League second qualifying round clash.
The Welsh side were major underdogs going into the match at Belle Vue and goals from Mladen Krstajic, Cleo, Lamine Diarra and Nenad Djordjevic sealed a comprehensive win for the Serbian giants.
Partizan were immediately on the attack, with Nemanja Tomic and Radoslav Petrovic both looking dangerous, while Rhyl's only effort on goal in the early stages came from Luke Holden.
The visitors took the lead after 17 minutes through a free-kick from Krstajic, who was playing his first match since returning to the club this summer from Schalke.
Another debutant, Cleo, then doubled their advantage a minute later, showing he has not been affected by the furore surrounding his move from city rivals Red Star.
Partizan continued to pile forward and they breached the Rhyl defence again just before half-time through Diarra.
Djordjevic then made it four in the 69th minute as the Belgrade outfit ensured the second leg will be merely a formality.
