Two English teams that are hoping to meet again in the Europa League finals will clash this Sunday at Anfield Road. Along with Hamburger SV and Atletico Madrid,
Liverpool and
Fulham FC make up the semi-final contenders for the Europa League trophy. In an incredibly lacklustre season, the European campaign has been one spot where Liverpool fans can be proud of their team. The Reds have looked worlds better in recent games, largely due to the return of Fernando Torres.
Rafa Benitez knows there is no more room to slip up in the Premiership if they are to edge their way into the top four this season. Liverpool are 4 points behind 4th place Manchester City and will be looking to make up the gap with an incredible run in the last 5 games. The next step comes at home against Fulham and will be an important match as Liverpool look to get their 9th consecutive win at Anfield.
Fulham FC are safely in the middle of the table and have their major focus will be on their performance in the Europa League. Roy Hodgson made it very clear that the Premiership is now taking the back-seat of priorities when he fielded a suspiciously weak lineup against Hull City 2 weeks ago that caused West Ham to make a formal complaint. The Hammers believed
Hodgson was giving their relegation rivals an 'easy ride'.
This season has been a tough one for the Cottagers on the road, who are now at 28 away matches without a victory. This will affect the players psychologically as Anfield Road is not the easiest venue to play at.
The biggest factor in this match is motivation. Fulham are already safe from relegation, but too far from the top spots to try for a better finish.
Liverpool must win the remainder of their games if they are to have a chance of salvaging their season with a top four finish.
