The idea of establishing a common Czech and Slovak national football competition is actuall agian. With this idea came Slovak officials earlier this year and to general surprise, the Czech side agreed. The common competition should operate with twelve Czech and six Slovak teams. Both countries has already agreed with the project in the negotiation process. Renewal of the Federal League, which was disbanded in the 90th the last century, must be approved by the European Football Associations (UEFA). UEFA was against this idea before in similar cases (Scandinavia or the Benelux), but Czech officials are optimistic before final verdict.
Fear of the Czech and Slovak parties, that UEFA will have strictly negative attitude weren' t correct. For both sides is now important to prepare detail project.

President of the ČMFS Ivan Hasek said that he wants to take this step as soon as possible. "UEFA want to improve the quality and popularity of football in this region. And such a project could certainly help," said Ivan Hasek
According to the International Federation of Football Historians and Statistics, the Slovak football competition is currently 33rd in the world ranking
