On Saturday evening the finals of the UEFA Champions League between FC Bayern Munich and Inter Milan take place in Madrid's Santiago Bernabéu. Both teams have won this season national championship and cup titles and are now aiming the longed for triple.
German record champions FC Bayern Munich is the first time since winning the title in 2001 in the final of the UEFA Champions League again. Overall, the Munich have won the most important European club competition four times (thrice forerunner European Cup, once Champions League). On Saturday the fifth title should succeed. On the way to the finals the Bavarians had quite some difficulties. Promotion to the knockout phase was only achieved in the last group match thanks to a 4:1-win at Juventus Turin. After that the Munich side eliminated ACF Fiorentina, Manchester United and Olympique Lyon.
In contrast to Bayern Munich, opponent Inter Milan hasn't won the UEFA Champions League. The European Cup win was twice, though the last title is already back 45 years. Now Jose Mourinho is focused on bringing the most important trophy in European club football to Milan again. Inter Milan qualified as second in Group F for the knockout phase where the Nerazzurri then threw Chelsea, CSKA Moscow and finally defending champion FC Barcelona out of the competition.
