Tim Cahill is an injury doubt ahead of the opener against Germany on Sunday. The Everton player is still recovering from a neck injury sustained in last week's 3-1 warm-up loss to the United States.
Harry Kewell, a controversial inclusion in this year's squad, has been dominating Australian headlines after sustaining a groin injury just a couple weeks ago. Now the Socceroos have a more serious problem. Tim Cahill is the team's leading goalscorer and the squad lose confidence without him.
However, 31-year-old Kewell looks to be healthy again and should make the start on Sunday whether or not Cahill wins his battle for fitness.
