English defender
Ledley King suffered a tear in his groin during the first half of Saturday's 1-1 draw with the United States. Preliminary tests indicate that King will be out for two to three weeks, but injury scans have been sent to
London for a second opinion.
This could be somewhat of a blow for the England squad as
Jamie Carrager, who came on at half to replace King, did not appear up to the task. Jozy Altidore, the American striker, repeatedly got in behind Carrager, thus showing signs that the Liverpool co-captain is losing his speed.
Other possible replacements are Michael Dawson and Matthew Upson. Having lost
Rio Ferdinand before the start of the tournament,
Fabio Capello is hoping not to have a crisis on his hands in terms of defenders.
Though King could be fit for the round of 16 or quarterfinals, it is unlikely that
Capello would start him after having been out of action for that long.
