Tim Cahill has called his sending off against Germany one of the "lowest moments" of his career. In the 56th minute of Australia's 4-0 loss to the European giants, Cahill saw red in a dubious decision by referee Marco Rodriguez.
Bastian Schweinsteiger went down after a tough side-to-side challenge by Cahill and played the part of injury perfectly. After the match, Schweinsteiger met with Cahill at the press conference and told him he should not have been dismissed.
Cahill commented: "I'm just sad, It's probably one of the saddest moments of my footballing career to be in this position. To hear Schweinsteiger say that, it's very nice of him to say it wasn't a red card. It just shows you how dreams can be made and crushed in the space of hours."
Australia face an uphill battle now, first playing
Ghana on Saturday and
Serbia the following Wednesday. Without their best player, hopes appear dim for the Socceroos.
