WC-David James likely to replace Green

Football - World Cup 2010 - 2010-06-18
Veteran keeper David James is likely to replace Robert Green for Friday's late match against Algeria. Many believe Green's nerves may be too much to handle after fumbling a shot against the USA, losing 2 points in the process.

David James has been the keeper of choice for many friendlies leading up to the World Cup and has done a decent job. However, a shortage of first team football from an injury troubled season with Portsmouth-and subsequently aggravating his knee on the flight to South Africa-caused Capello to opt for Green in the opening match.

If Capello goes with James, it will likely shatter what fragile confidence Green has left. The final straw was likely a shaky final practice in which Green was still showing signs of nerves.
