Brazil and
Netherlands have locked their position in the Quarterfinals today, having taken care of
Chile and
Slovakia, respectively.
La Oranje played the early match and an 18' strike by
Arjen Robben put Netherlands in the driver's seat. An 84' goal by
Wesley Sneijder put the match result beyond doubt, but Slovakia saved some pride when
Robert Vittek slotted home an extra time penalty for a final score of 2-1.
The
Selecao were in the spotlight once again tonight and in traditional Brazilian fashion. This match showcased the beautiful game perhaps like no other yet in the 2010 World Cup.
Defender
Juan got things started in the 35' when he sank a header off the corner kick. 3 minutes later a Kaka assist enabled
Luis Fabiano to dribble past the Chilean keeper and double the lead.
Robinho sealed their victory in the 59' with a well placed shot at the top of the 18.
Brazil will be the favorite going into this Quarterfinal which will be played July 2 at 15:00 (CET) in the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium (Port Elizabeth).
