Paraguay started with a strong defensive formation, but after 83 minutes of frustration
La Roja finally found the back of the net via
David Villa, the tournament's top goalscorer.
This will be the first time in 60 years that
Spain has reached the World Cup semi-finals;
Paraguay, however,
proved to be a tough obstacle. Both sides had back-to-back penalty kicks in the 2nd half, but neither were able to convert.
Spain will now move on to face
Germany, who appear to be the in-form team of this year's finals. If
La Roja are to achieve their dream of a World Cup final, they will need to improve performance.
The 2nd Semi-final will be a repeat of the Euro 2008 final and take place on 7 July at
Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.
