Hamburger SV welcomes
Werder Bremen in the second DFB Cup semi-final (Wednesday, 22.4.2009, 8:30 CET, live ZDF). The winner of this derby plays in the final in Berlin against Bayer Leverkusen (4:1-win against FSV Mainz 05 on Tuesday).
Hamburger SV has this season still the chance to win the treble (Bundesliga, UEFA Cup, DFB Cup). In the league the Jol-team is only three points behind leader Wolfsburg and therefore HSV has a realistic chance on the first Bundesliga championship since the season 1982/83. In the UEFA Cup they are in the semi-final and meets as well as in the DFB Cup on Werder Bremen. The DFB Cup semi-final is the first of four meetings between HSV and Werder Bremen in three different competitions over the next three weeks (1x DFB Cup, 1x league, 2x UEFA Cup).
Werder Bremen could make this season the double (UEFA Cup and DFB Cup). In the Bundesliga they are in contrast to HSV only on the 10th position and with it out of the international start places. Therefore Werder Bremen must win the UEFA Cup or the DFB Cup to qualify for next seasons UEFA Europa League (from the 2009/10 season, the UEFA Cup will be rebranded as the UEFA Europa League).
The long-term injury cases Bastian Reinhardt, Romeo Castelen, Timothee Atouba and Eric Choupo-Moting are the only absentees for HSV. Werder coach Thomas Schaaf will be without the services of Petri Pasanen and Aaron Hunt. Mesut Özil, Sebastian Boenisch and Diego are fit and take their place in the squad for Hamburg.
