After the victorious first game against the United States (won by 3-1 thanks to an extraordinary
Giuseppe Rossi) the azzurri of Marcello Lippi now have to play against Egypt (
thursday at 8:30 p.m.), the champions of Africa.
Against the USA Italy certainly didn't play a brilliant game, but (as against New Zealand) they played with all their heart and in the end they got a deserved victory. The matchwinner for Italy was the 22 year old Giuseppe Rossi who scored two wonderful goals and prooved to be a very important factor of the squadra azzurra. Italy can be happy about the fact that Rossi has chosen to play for their team and not for the United States, the country where he has lived untill the age of 13. For this reason the spanish sports newspaper "As" has called him a traitor, which will probably not really bother Rossi, it might even give him some extra motivation.
As for Egypt, the champions of Africa have lost their first game against Brazil 3-4, but their football association will plead at the FIFA as the referee has given the decisive penalty against Egypt after consulting video images.
Anyway the "Pharaos" have made a good game, but still the azzurri should manage to beat them. This would also be an opportunity to verify Marcello Lippi's theory about the first game being the most important one as it indicates the direction for the rest of the tournament ...
My tip is
