Spain faces in the first semi-final of
FIFA Confederations Cup 2009 on the
USA (Wednesday, 24.6.2009, 8:30 pm CET). Spain has won all three group matches and is therefore clear to favour in their semi-final against USA.
European champion Spain also hurries at the FIFA Confederations Cup 2009 in South Africa from victory to victory. After the 5:0 opener win over New Zealand they celebrated a 1:0 victory against Iraq and a 2:0 win over South Africa. It was at the same time the 15th victory in a row for Spain (new record). The forwards Fernando Torres and David Villa scored up to now 6 goals and leads together with Luis Fabiano (Brazil) the goal scorers list.
The USA started with two defeats in the FIFA Confederations Cup 2009 in South Africa (1:3 against Italy and 0:3 against Brazil). With a 3:0 victory in the last group match against Egypt the Americans qualified for the semi-finals, thanks to the better goal difference. The USA has never won against Spain (2 matches, 2 defeats)
