Today in the afternoon
Marcello Lippi's "azzurri" will leave their training camp in Florence and will be heading to Basles where tomorrow evening (at 8:45 p.m.) they will play a friendly match against the national team of
Switzerland.
The
squadra azzurra will have to play much better than in the
Confederations Cup in Southafrica, which has been a huge delusion for the fans and for the media, even if Lippi has invited everyone not to overestimate or dramatize this "false step" of the reigning Champions of the World. For the moment anyway big names like
Toni, Montolivo, Amelia, but also
Totti or Cassano will not be invited to play for the National team. In the case of Roma captain Francesco Totti Lippi has declared to respect his decision not to play for the team and that he has no intention to "reopen" this case. As far as the others (like Luca Toni) are concerned, Lippi said that they had to remain outside for "technical and psychological reasons" but that they had the possibility to return to the team if they showed the coach that they have made a step forward.
There will be two new players in the team:
Marchisio (Juventus) and Criscito (Genoa).
Let's see if the Squadra Azzurra manages to become a collective as strong as in 2006 in the near future - for the moment they have to play against a swiss team which for sure will not be an easy team to play, even if they as well have seen more glorious days in football...
