In the 3rd round the youngest Schalke side since the early 1970ies will face its first tougher challenge after playing freshly-promoted Nuremberg and local-rivals Bochum. With the generated euphoria among team and fans winning at Hoffenheim seems highly possible. Especially because the hosts haven’t shown any convincing performance yet: After luckily drawing with Bayern Munich they lost at Leverkusen against Bayer.

1. FSV Mainz 05 vs. FC Bayern Munich

Both teams started with two draws into their league campaign. While newly-promoted Mainz can be satisfied with their results, pressure is increasing in Munich. Bayern needs a victory to stay in touch with top of the table. French Midfielder and Playmaker is expected to return into the starting XI. He’ll strengthen Bayern’s offensive play and guarantee picking up three points at the Bruchwegstadion.

VfL Wolfsburg vs. Hamburger SV
Kick-Off: Sunday, August 23rd, 5:30 pm

It’s defenitely the top-game of the week in Germany: Second against Third, Champion Wolfsburg against the HSV. The title-holder had a good start into their legague campaign and coped with the loss of Coach Felix Magath better than expected. After winning against Stuttgart and Cologne they are the favourite in the Northern Derby as well. They will face a HSV-side who has boosted its self-confidence with a superb 4-1-victory against Dortmund. Thus any talks on a crisis were blown away, especially with new players proving themselves as highly useful. Nonetheless they’ll face a difficult task, because Wolfsburg has won both past season’s duels.
