Red Bull Salzburg must win the second leg of the play-offs in Israel against
Maccabi Haifa to qualify for the
UEFA Champions League group stage.
Salzburg hopes to continue their performance from the last 2 qualification away matches. In the second round Salzburg won in Dublin against Bohemian FC with 1-0 and advance (aggregate 2-1) to the third round, where they beat Dinamo Zagreb with a 3-2 aggregate win (1-1 at home, 2-1 win in Zagreb). In the Austrian tipp3-Bundesliga the Red Bulls are after 5 matchdays on the second rank (3 wins, 1 draw, 1 defeat).
Maccabi Haifa started the competition as well as Salzburg in the second qualifying round, where Haifa eliminated Glentoran FC with a 10-0 aggregate win. In the third qualifying round Maccabi Haifa showed a sensational comeback against FK Aktobe. Following a goalless away draw, Haifa were 3-0 down after just 15 minutes in the home match, but they battled back to win 4-3 at the end. After the 2-1 win in Salzburg Maccabi had a good chance to qualify for the UEFA Champions League group stage. The start into the national championship was good. Maccabi Haifa beat Hapoel Akko at home with 2-1.
