FC Basle vs. BSC Young Boys
Sunday, 30. August 2009, 7 PM (CET)
Stadium: St. Jakob-Park / Basle
After two vice-championships (2008, 2009), the Young Boys of Berne are ready for the big deal. With the newly built Stade de Suisse (formerly Wankdorf Stadium) and a young team, it's a great bargain for the squad of coach Petkovic to gain the championship. Although staves as midfielder Carlos Varela (Neuchatel Xamax) or Christian Schwegler (Red Bull Salzburg) left YB at the beginning of the season, the club leads the Super League with seven points ahead.
Between 2002 and 2008, tradition-steeped FC Basle could win four times the Swiss championship. Recently archrival FC Zurich replaced FCB as Swiss number one. With signing of the new head coach Thorsten Fink and the expensive return of striker Alexander Frei (bought from Dortmund for approximately 4.25 million euro) they start to get back at top of the league. Currently, it looks less bright for FC Basle, just nine points from the first seven games speak for themselves.
Tip: Actually, everything speaks for a victory of Young Boys. I believe that the squad of FC Basle has enough quality to gain a draw at home in the well-known St. Jakob-Park. Best odd for a draw at Interwetten with 3,30 at the moment!
