Roger Federer has won this season already two Grand Slam tournaments (French Open and Wimbledon) and got back the number 1 position from Rafael Nadal. The US Open could be his third Grand Slam title this year. Altogether Federer has won 15 Grand Slam tournaments, more than everyone else. In the first four rounds of the US Open 2009 Federer has lost only 1 set (in round 3 against Hewitt). His opponent in the quarterfinal, Robin Söderling, has lost till now 3 sets. In the fourth round he leads against Nikolay Dawydenko with 2-1 in sets, before the Russian player retired. The last meeting between Federer and Söderling ended with a 3-set win (6-1, 7-6, 6-4) of Federer at the French Open final 2009.
My tip: Federer is this season again the best tennis player of the world. On his way to Grand Slam title number 16 he will beat Söderling clearly.

Novak Djokovic vs Fernando Verdasco

In the second quarterfinal Novak Djokovic (SRB) meet Fernando Verdasco (ESP). Djokovic has won 1 Grand Slam tournament in his career (Australian Open 2008) and is seeded in New York as number 4. Djokovic lost till now only 1 set at the US Open 2009, in the fourth round he beat Radek Štěpánek with 6-1, 6-3, 6-3. Harder was the way of Fernando Verdasco. The number 10 had to go in the third round against Tommy Haas over 5 sets (3-6, 7-5, 7-6, 1-6, 6-4), in round 4 he won against John Isner after 4 sets (4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4).
My tip: Fernando Verdasco has played two stressful matches, while Djokovic won especially in the fourth round clearly. Therefore I bet on Djokovic.
