SK Rapid Vienna succeeded on matchday 1 of the
UEFA Europa League a big surprise. Rapid beat Hamburger SV 3-0 in the opening fixture of the group stage. Next Thursday Rapid Vienna will be hosted by
Celtic Glasgow at the Celtic Park.
25 years ago Celtic Glasgow and Rapid Vienna met in the round of 16 of the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup. Rapid won the home match 3-1, Celtic the return leg 3-0 but the result was annulled after crowd trouble. So the game was then replayed in Manchester at Old Trafford, where Rapid won 1-0. Current coach Peter Pacult scoring the goal and Rapid Vienna advanced to the quarterfinals.
This time the two clubs meet in the UEFA Europa League, where Celtic lost the opener in group C against Hapoel Tel-Aviv with 1-2. Now they must win against Rapid to protect their chances in this group. Celtic have won only one of their last six European home games (2-0 against FC Villarreal in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League 2008/09). This season the Green-Whites from Glasgow lost both European home matches without scoring.
SK Rapid Vienna started the UEFA Europa League 2009/10 in the second qualifying round. They eliminated on their road to the group stage KS Vllaznia Shkoder (aggregate 8-0), APOP Kinyras Peyias (3:2 after extra time) and Aston Villa (2:2 on away goals). In the group stage opener Rapid beat Hamburger SV 3-0 and provided with it for a big surprise. On Saturday Rapid Vienna celebrated in the national championship a 3-1 win against Magna Wr. Neustadt, 2 goals scored new forward Hamdi Salihi.

UEFA Europa League - Group C, Matchday 2

Tip: Celtic has lost both European home fixtures this season, while Rapid comes with a lot of self-confidence to Glasgow. Rapid Vienna presented already at the away game in Birmingham against Aston Villa a strong performance. It´s a risky tip but I bet on Rapid.
