Villarreal CF qualified as fifth of the Spanish Primera Division 2008/09 for the UEFA Europa League play-offs, where Villarreal eliminated NAC Breda 9-2 on aggregate (3-1 away, 6-1 at home). In the first match of the group stage Villarreal beat Levski Sofia 1-0. The Brazilian forward Nilmar scored the winning goal. On Sunday the team of coach Ernesto Valverde lost in La Coruña 0-1, it was the third season defeat in the national championship (2 draws, 3 defeats). So Villarreal is at the moment only second last of Primera Division 2009/10.
