Football, UEFA Champions League, Group H: Manchester United vs. VFL Wolfsburg
2009-09-29
Last year's Champion's League runners-up Manchester United return to the cup this year with the same ambitions that drove them in 2008-2009. Their first Group Stage game against Turkish champions Besiktas was a slow game where the Red Devils were lucky to come away with 3 points. Being at Old Trafford should help the champions of 2006-2007 come out of their shell and score some goals. This is the first time that VFL Wolfsburg has participated in a Champion's League and it should be interesting to see how they cope with the pressure. They currently sit 6th in the Germany Bundesliga after a surprising run last year that won them the domestic league. Expect Wolfsburg to play more defensively in this away match as the most they can hope for is to gain a point. However, don't expect them not to score. Bosnian striker Edin Dzeko has already been on the mark this year scoring 4 goals in their first 7 Bundesliga games. I expect, however, for Manchester United to come out on top as they will be playing in front of a packed home crowd and will want to impress.
