Football, Premier League, Day 8: Manchester United vs AFC Sunderland
|
2009-10-01
On Saturday evening top ranked Manchester United will host AFC Sunderland in what should be an exciting match. The Black Cats may be confident after back to back victories against Birmingham City and Wolverhampton, with the Red Devils sitting proudly on top and with three wins from three at their fortress-like Old Trafford home, it will take a monumental effort for Sunderland to come away with a result.
Manchester United could be without Park Ji-Sung (virus), Edwin Van der Sar (thumb), Rafael (shoulder) and long-term absentee Owen Hargreaves (knee) are all likely to miss out. This fact, however, is unlikely to stop them from pulling of spectacular football like they did all season so far. Due to Michael Owens injury during Wendsday´s clash against VfL Wolfsburg, it is very likely that Ferguson will continue with strikers Wayne Rooney and Dimitar Berbatov in a 4-4-2. The Red Devils a currently riding an impressive winning streak, having won 8 games in a row, including 4- clean sheets and 20 goals. Considering United´s spectacular home strength, their winning run might very well continue beyond Saturday.
Sunderland are of to a solid season start, currently sitting in 8th place. Their confidence could very well be diminished, however, after Saturday´s match at Old Trafford - their record a the Theatre of Dreams is absolutely abysmal. Sunderland have not won there in a league match in 41(!) years. Of course the Black Cats could pull of a sensational victory on Saturday, but the odds for that to happen are regrettably long.
