Football, World Cup 2010 Qualifying, Group 6: Ukraine vs England

England has already qualified for the FIFA 2010 World Cup Finals in South Africa but looks to remain perfect against Ukraine on Saturday, October 10, 2009.

Ukraine still have a chance to qualify for a play off spot, but desperately need a victory against England on Saturday. They will be hoping that Andrei Shevchenko, the former player of the year, will recapture some of his old form come Sunday. Shevchenko, who cost Chelsea a whooping 30.9 million, knows how badly his goals are needed, if Ukraine are to stand any chance of overtaking Croatia for a play-off spot in Uefa Group 6. "For the whole of Ukraine, this game with England is decisive. We are still fighting to be at the World Cup, but to do that we must defeat England," he said and continued: “Ukraine can win against England but we need to improve our performances from the last few matches. Unless we improve, it will be very hard for us to make it."

England have qualified already, but they are known for never letting up and never taking a game easily. Coach Fabio Capello demands professionalism until the very last moment and is unlikely to give too many players a break on Saturday. The England roster is captained by defender John Terry who headlines a solid defense. The midfield is also very strong with Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, and the veteran David Beckham.
