The
UEFA Champions League group stage will be continued with the fixtures of Matchday 3. On Tuesday
VfB Stuttgart hosts
FC Sevilla in the top game of Group G. Both clubs are unbeaten in the group stage. Stuttgart has drawn twice, while Sevilla started with 2 wins.
VfB Stuttgart qualified as third of the Bundesliga season 2008/09 for the Champions League play-offs, where they beat FC Timişoara 2-0 on aggregate. In the first both group games Stuttgart played 1-1 against Glasgow Rangers, followed by a 1-1 on Matchday 2 against the Romanian champions Unirea Urziceni. Now coach Markus Babbel hopes on the first victory in the home game against Sevilla. But their statistic against Spanish clubs is very bad. Stuttgart have not won the last three games at home to Spanish opponents and failed to even score in their last two fixtures. In nine meetings overall, home and away, Stuttgart has won only 1 game.
On the other side FC Sevilla has good recollections to their Tuesday opponents, because Sevilla and Stuttgart met 12 months ago in Spain during the UEFA Cup group stage. Sevilla won 2-0 through goals from Ndri Romaric and Renato. Both players will be probably this time in the squad of coach Manuel Jiménez, but Romaric was at last only substitute player. Sevilla has won their both group games. The leader of Group G started with a 2-0 home win over Unirea Urziceni followed by an impressive 4-1 win at the Ibrox-Park versus Glasgow Rangers. Against Stuttgart the top forwards Luís Fabiano and Frédéric Kanouté, which have together a market value of 50 million euros, should provide for the Sevilla goals.
