Matchday Wednesday at Stamford Bridge will see a sold-out crowd ready to cheer on the heavily favored Blues. After defeat at the weekend
Chelsea FC sit 2nd in the Premier League standings, just 1 point behind defending champions
Manchester United. They have been in good form with impressive performances from
Drogba, Anelka, and even
Deco. After Saturday's loss to Aston Villa however, manager
Carlo Ancelotti will have his team motivated to perform. The London-based club allowed 2 goals off of headers to result in a 2-1 defeat at Villa Park. The offense was playing well though, and only a stellar performance from Villa keeper
Brad Friedel kept a draw or win from the away team. Despite this,
Chelsea are currently undefeated in
Champions League group stages with a wins over
FC Porto (Portugal) and
APOEL (Cyprus) so far.
The aerial attack will probably not be what
Atletico Madrid Manager
Abel Resino tries to exploit on Wednesday. The Blues' wingers are too talented and
Resino will push for a more center-minded attack with the likes of
Alessandro Lopez and
Kun Aguero looking to score. The Spanish club have had a bad way of things so far in La Liga, gaining just 6 points from their first 7 games.
Champions League performance has been no better. Their first match against Cyprus side
APOEL resulted in a 0-0 draw at home, while an away match to
FC Porto ended in a 2-0 loss.
Atletico Madrid will need to concentrate on their La Liga campaign as they have fallen behind early on, and their performance thus far in the
Champions League inspires no confidence.
Chelsea, meanwhile, will be looking to correct the mistakes of the weekend and should win this game by multiple goals.
