Eintracht Frankfurt hosts
FC Bayern München in the top game of the
DFB Cup Round of 16. It is the only fixture this round between two clubs from the first Bundesliga. The teams met already last Saturday in the league, where Frankfurt lost in Munich 1-2 after 1-0 leading. Now Skibbe´s side has the change to revenge.
Eintracht Frankfurt started the DFB Cup 2009/10 with 2 clear wins. In the opening fixture they beat Kickers Offenbach with 3-0, in round 2 Frankfurt celebrated a worth seeing 6-4 home win over second league club Alemannia Aachen. Now the record champion and record cup-winner FC Bayern München waits in the Round of 16. Frankfurt and Bayern met also in the league on last Saturday. Skibbe´s side leads in Munich 1-0 through a goal from Alexander Meier (60.), but at the end Bayern München won after a good finish 2-1 through goals from Arjen Robben (70.) and Daniel van Buyten (88.). Ioannis Amanatidis, injured in the league game against Bayern, could be maybe this time in the Frankfurt squad.
Record cup-winner FC Bayern München started the DFB Cup with a few glamorous 3-1 away win against SpVgg Neckarelz. In round 2 the star ensemble celebrated a clear 5-0 at home versus second league club Rot-Weiß Oberhausen. The goals scored Daniel van Buyten (2), Thomas Müller, Mario Gomez and Daniel Embers (own goal). In the league table Bayern are on rank 5, only 4 points behind leader Leverkusen. At the 2-1 win last round versus Frankfurt midfielder Arjen Robben gave his comeback after injury break and scored 11 minutes after his substitution the goal to the 1-1. This time Robben could be in the starting eleven from Bayern coach Louis van Gaal. Not in the squad are the injured players Franck Ribéry and Ivica Olic.
