Liverpool travel south to face
Fulham FC with hopes of building on last weekend's success at home over
Manchester United. They played a Carling Cup match away to
Arsenal, but had fielded a weaker team and lost 2-1.
Steven Gerrard and
Fernando Torres were rested for this game and they will be ready to perform at Craven Cottage on Saturday. The only injury worries that
Rafael Benitez will face is the absence of midfielders
Albert Riera and newcomer
Alberto Aquilani. The return of
Steven Gerrard from injury should more than make up for their loss.
Fulham had gotten off to a poor start in the Premier League largely because of their hectic schedule with European matches to factor in as well. However, they seem lately to have been taking things in stride, not having lost in 5 matches. At home, they have only allowed 1 goal in the last 3 matches. These stats may not mean much against a Liverpool side who are hungry to improve their spot in the table. The Cottagers have many injuries to worry about, namely striker
Andrew Johnson and midfielder
Daniel Murphy. Manager
Roy Hodgson will likely adopt a defensive approach and will not risk very much while trying to get a point against the visiting Reds.
Liverpool's struggling squad came back to life in the best of ways with a 2-0 derby win against
Manchester United. The players will be confident and motivated when playing a team with much less quality and will press for the attack early.
Fulham have some injury worries and will not be risking too much, so expect Torres or Gerrard to get some goals and win this match with a clean sheet.
