Levski Sofia hosts
FC Red Bull Salzburg on Matchday 4 of the
UEFA Europa League group stage. Salzburg leads Group G with the maximum of 9 points, while Levski is last without a point. The first leg two weeks ago ended with a 1-0 win for Red Bull Salzburg.
Levski Sofia has a very bad start in the UEFA Europa League group stage. The Bulgarian champions lost their three group games without scoring a goal, so they need a victory on Thursday against Salzburg to protect their minimum chance on the Europa League Knockout phase. Levski started with a 0-1 away defeat in the opening fixture against Villarreal followed by a 0-4 at home versus S.S. Lazio. Two weeks ago they lost 0-1 against Salzburg. At the game in Salzburg Georgi Ivanov gave his debut as Levski coach. In the national championship Levski Sofia is on table rank 6, the last two rounds brought 2 draws.
The Austrian champion Red Bull Salzburg is on the best way towards reaching the knockout phase. The Stevens-men won all their three games. First they beat S.S. Lazio in Rome 2-1, followed by an impressive 2-0 home win over the Spanish top club FC Villarreal. The goals in Rome scored Franz Schiemer and Marc Janko, at the home game against Villarreal Salzburg won through goals from Janko and Somen Tchoyi. Matchday 3 brought a 1-0 home win in the first leg over Levski Sofia, the winning goal scored Dušan Švento. Red Bull Salzburg is also in the Austrian Bundesliga on top. The Red Bulls are leading the table after their 2-0 win last round against SV Mattersburg.
