Football: English Premier League: Round 12: Chelsea vs. Manchester United

2009-11-07
Portuguese midfielder Deco claims that his team will win the important match between league leaders Chelsea and Manchester United. Deco comments on the quality in Chelsea's offense:

"The big difference between us and United is in attack," said Deco. "Drogba is enjoying a spectacular moment in his career and is superior to the front-line of United. For me, Didi will be the key - the star of the match, for sure."

The last time these two teams met was in August for the Community Shield Cup. This match, played in Wembley Stadium, went to penalties only for Chelsea to come out on top. United will not have forgotten this match and will likely want revenge for a tough loss. Chelsea has been playing incredibly well lately, they currently are +20 on Goal Difference and have 27 points from 11 Premier League matches. They are undefeated while playing at Stamford Bridge and have averaged 3 goals while only allowing a curprisingly tight 0.2 goals. Goalkeeper Petr Cech has been playing well and manager Carlo Ancelotti will likely adopt a semi-attacking approach here with the quality of Lampard, Drogba and Anelka pushing forward.

Manchester United lost their second big derby match of the season at Anfield just 2 weeks ago. The 2-0 defeat came after an increadibly physical play by Fernando Torres on centreback Rio Ferdinand which led to Liverpool's first goal. Rio Ferdinand will be out for this match after straining his calf in United's last match against CSKA Moscow. This Champions League match ended 3-3, a surprising amount of goals for Manchester to have given up to such weak opposition. This will be the main issue in Sir Alex Ferguson's mind as he and his team travel south to face Chelsea. Expect them to adopt a more defensive approach as they try to correct mistakes made midweek.

This is a very important match between the #1 and #2 ranked teams in the English Premier League. The winner will be top of the table and would give them a tremendous boost in confidence. Manchester United's inconsistent form coupled with the loss of centreback Rio Ferdinand should prove just the edge Chelsea's impressive strikers need to win this one.
