In early June many people thought that
Cameroon's chances at appearing in the 2010 World Cup were all but gone. A 0-0 draw at home against
Morocco was unjustifiable in the eyes of their fans and this spurred German manager Otto Pfister to resign. Shortly thereafter
Paul Le Guen, a former French International, took the reigns and progressed to turn the team in a complete 180. After removing former captain Rigobert Song from the squad and handing it to striker
Samuel Eto'o instead, the team have been undefeated in all qualifiers. Their next 3 qualifiers in which they played Gabon twice and Togo once were convincing performances that they won with 1, 2 and 3 goal margins. With
Samuel Eto'o spearheading the attack and inspiring a new turn of form in his team, the upcoming match at Fes against Morocco seems a foregone conclusion. They are now top of Group A with 10 points and will be able to clinch their World Cup berth with a win this weekend. There are many talents on this squad and they will press for the attack from the onset and attempt to win this match in the first half.
Morocco are currently last in Group A rankings. They are all but out of the running for World Cup 2010 but still have motivation as the World Cup Qualifiers double as qualification for the 2010 CAF African Nations Cup. Their hopes are dim, however, as they have not won in the last 5 qualifying matches. Still, the stadium at Fes is not an easy venue and the home squad have a winning record there. No doubt they will put forth a defensive display in an attempt to thwart the attack led by
Samuel Eto'o.
With a new manager and everything to play for in this last qualifying match,
Cameroon will assault the net from early on and hope to make up for their last performance at home against the
Moroccans that ended 0-0.
