Sunday, the 15
th of november, at 2 a.m. (European time), the first match of the CONMEBOL/CONCACAF Play-off for the World Cup 2010, between
Costa Rica and
Uruguay will take place in Costa Rica. We can expect a very interesting game, because both teams, more than ever, want to participate at the FIFA World 2010 in South Africa.
Costa Rica is a team, which plays their home-games very good, but their away games bad. The Ticos won all of their 2009 home-games, only against Mexico they lost 0:3. On the other hand, they lost all their away games, except against the United States, when they tied 2:2. Jonathan Bornstein scored the second goal for the North Americans in the last minute, what meant, that Costa Rica didn't qualify directly, but now has to play the Play-off. The two goals of manager Rene Simoes team, scored Twente Enschede forward Bryan Ruiz.
Uruguay finished the South American Qualification Group on the fifth place, with 24 points. Of their 18 games, they won six, tied six and lost six. In total, the charruas scored 28 goals and received 20. Uruguay now plays the third time in a row the Play-off for a World Cup(for World Cup 2002 they won against Australia, for World Cup 2006 they lost against the socceroos) and specially waits for goals of Atletico Madrid forward Diego Forlan. In the last 20 years, Urugauy never lost against Costa Rica. They only tied one time 1:1 (17.07.2001, Copa America).
