When
Algeria travelled to face
Egypt this past Saturday for their final
World Cup Qualifier, all they needed was not to lose by more than a goal to guarantee a spot in South Africa this summer.
Egypt however, played a strong match and won 2-0 This was the exact amount of goals Egypt needed to force a playoff with its North African neighbor. Both teams are tied at the top of Group C with 13 points and goal difference is identical. To prevent any anticipated mayhem,
FIFA ruled that the match should be played on neutral ground in Khartoum, Sudan.
The stars of this match are undoubtedly
Amr Zaki and
Mohamed Zidan, who currently play for
Wigan Athletic and
Borussia Dortmund respectively. However,
Algeria have a strong side and will put up a good fight here. In the 2 matches that these teams met previously, it was the home side that won each time (Egypt 2-0 & Algeria 3-1). Even though
Egypt are favorites, it is not advisable to bet either team to win because both managers know the match will go to overtime in the event of a draw. The stakes are so high here that both teams will likely adopt a defensive formation. Advise Under 2.5 Goals.
