Struggling club
Everton F.C. face
Tottenham after an important mid-week victory in the Europa League. The Toffees were winless in 8 of 9 matches before their 1-0 defeat of AEK Athens. Their poor form is the result of a number of long-time injuries that David Moyes has had to deal with:
Phil Jagielka,
Leon Osman, Jack Rodwell, Mikel Arteta, Phil Neville, James Vaughan and Victor Anichebe are all out for extended periods.
Dan Gosling and Sylvain Distin will also be unavailable after picking up injuries in the AEK match. Everton have a decent record at home (2-3-2) but are struggling with finishing. They are only 2 points from the relegation zone and need to get something from this match to avoid potential problems.
Tottenham are 4th in the Premier League and just 2 points behind Arsenal who won their Saturday match against Stoke City. Spurs will be disappointed after a 2-0 loss on Tuesday to
Manchester United's b-squad in the
Carling Cup quarterfinals. Harry Redknapp fielded his strongest team but was unable to break a tough Red Devils defense. The boss will not worry too much because of their great performance in the Premier League, and will field another strong squad.
Jermaine Defoe, who is tied for 1st in league goals, will start up front alongside
Peter Crouch. Tottenham has been playing well enough to win the away match at Goodison Park.
Although Hotspurs have been more consistent,
Everton's recent performance is an indication that the Toffees could get something here. Both teams have good motivation to win here and we should see an open game with many goals.
