It is fortuitous that
Arsenal already secured top spot in Group H.
Arsene Wenger is now dealing with a plague of injuries that has seriously handicapped his team.
Tomas Rosicky and
Eduardo have been added to the Gunners' growing list of problems: Van Persie, Clichy, Djourou, Gibbs, Diaby, Sagna and Bendtner have all been out for weeks. The Gunners are currently 3rd in the Premier League and Wenger will no doubt rest many of his starters for the weekend match at Anfield. With 13 points and a guaranteed 1st seed in Group H, Arsenal will not feel very motivated to attack in Greece. Young players will be given the chance to shine, but may find it difficult at the
Karaiskakis Stadium.
This match is of the utmost importance for
Olympiakos. They are only 3 points ahead of 3rd placed Standard Liege, and need to get something from this match in order to guarantee a spot in the round of 16. They have won both matches at home so far, and manager
Zico will be keen to put on a good show for the home support. Domestically, Olympiakos are set to repeat their first place finish from last year. They are currently top of the table but only 1 point separates them from second place
Panathinaikos. Zico would field his best team anyways, but their weekend matchup against bottom ranked Panthrakikos will enable his squad to put everything into this match.
Arsenal have been on a rocky road recently, but this past weekend's win over Stoke City may improve confidence. Wenger will likely start a core of young players who may have trouble coping with the atmosphere in
Piraeus. Because of
Olympiakos' excellent home form, betting on them to win against a weaker Gunners side has great value.
