The upcoming 42th round of the Erste Bank Eishockey Liga (EBEL) brings on Saturday the 277th Kärntner Derby between EC KAC and EC VSV. This time the derby will be played outdoors at the Wörthersee Stadium, the football stadium of Klagenfurt.
Austrian record champions EC KAC are at the moment in bad form. They are in the league table only on rank 7 and lost the last 4 EBEL games. On Thursday they were going down at Vienna against the Vienna Capitals with 1-3. The goal for KAC scored the Canadian Jeffery Shantz. Now the team of head coach Emanuel Viveiros should win the derby to stop their negative run. It would be the first win in 2010.
In contrast to KAC their derby rival EC Villacher SV become in the last rounds stronger and stronger. EC VSV won the last 3 games in the EBEL, on Thursday they celebrated a 3-2 away win against SAPA Fehervar AV19. VSV won also 5 of their last 6 EBEL meetings, therewith they moved forward on table rank 5. But their away balance is negative: the team of head coach Johan Strömwall won only 7 of their 20 away games this season.
KAC and VSV met 276-times in history. KAC won 138 derbies, VSV won 119 derbies.
