The clash of the 23rd round of the Bundesliga consists of the duel between cup-holder Werder Bremen and current league leader Bayer Leverkusen.
Werder Bremen is revealed in this year's season as the surprise bag of the league. First, the Werderaner remained unbeaten in 23 games (all competitions). Subsequently, followed a misery of five defeats en suite, which in turn ushered in three wins in a supposed revival. During the week Werder suffered a slight shock again: in the UEFA Europe League Bremen lost the prestige duel against Twente Enschede 1:0.
Everybody's waiting for the collapse of Bayer Leverkusen, but so far the "Werkself" kept extremely stable. Still the leader of the Bundesliga is still undefeated and can hold its own against runner-up Bayern Munich, but just a single goal separates both teams from each other. Although the squad of coach Jupp Heynckes won only three times in the Weserstadion, they did it in the last season (0:2 thanks to goals from Arturo Vidal and Manuel Friedrich). In the first leg, there was a modest 0:0.
