The
UEFA Champions League round of 16 brings on Tuesday the second leg fixture between
ACF Fiorentina and
FC Bayern München. The Munich have won the first leg with 2:1 thanks to Miroslav Klose's winning goal in the 89th minute after Per Krøldrup (50th) had cancelled out Arjen Robben's penalty opener to the 1:0 (45th).
ACF Fiorentina qualified as winner of Group E for the UEFA Champions League round of 16. The Italians lost their opening group game at Olympique Lyon with 0:1, but then Fiorentina won 5 games in a row. They won both duels against FC Liverpool (2:0, 2:1) and Debreceni VSC (4:3, 5:2) and also the second leg against Lyon (1:0). Fiorentina scored 14 goals in the 6 group matches and therewith the second most behind Real Madrid (15). ACF Fiorentina have won all three home games in the group stage. In the national championship they are since three games without a win (1 draw, 2 defeats). So they are fallen back on table rank 10. The last round brought a 1:2 at home against Juventus Turin.
FC Bayern München qualified as second of Group A for the UEFA Champions League knock-out stage. Bayern won the last group game at Juventus Turin with 4:1. Therewith they become second ahead Juventus and advanced to the round of last 16. Bayern München is since 18 regular games (14 Bundesliga, 3 Champions League, 1 DFB Cup) unbeaten. The last defeat was on 3 November, 2009 with 0:2 at home against Girondins Bordeaux. In the national championship they are since 18 rounds unbeaten and meanwhile in the leading position.
Fiorentina and Bayern met also in the Champions League 2008/09, at that time in the group stage. Bayern won the first leg in Munich with 3:0, the second leg in Florence ended 1:1 drawn.
