Arsenal's patented attacking style seems to have been put on hold of late. The recent matches against Stoke City and Burnley are a good representation of how they are opting for possession more than all out attack. Both matches ended 3-1 in
Arsenal's favor, however, and the Gunners will head into Tuesday's Champions League fixture in good spirits.
Manchester United took the Premiership lead this weekend, although Chelsea still have a match in hand. Arsenal are 2 points behind the league leaders and Gunners fans are beginning to believe that their French manager may be able to pull off an upset and steal the title. Arsenal have been consistent and their home record remains very strong.
Despite impressive performances in Europe, Porto have been struggling domestically. After beating second-placed
Braga, they gave up the advantage by losing to fourth-placed
Sporting in their next match. The Dragons are currently in 3rd place and with only 8 matches left in the
Portuguese Liga, this year will likely be the one that ends their impressive title streak. A 2-2 draw this weekend against bottom feeders Olhanense will not leave Porto with very much confidence before they travel to Emirates.
Porto have never managed to win in England, where they have played 13 European matches previously. They will have a distinct 2-1 goal advantage, but will in all likelihood have to score if they want to dispose of the Gunners.
Arsenal will see the return of Manuel
Almunia in the goalkeeper position, and home fans will hope that he returns with a vengeance. Cesc Fabregas took a hard knock against Burnley and will be a game-time decision. This could be the most decisive factor in how the match will result. Porto will likely take a defensive stand and try to score on the counterattack. Arsene
Wenger will play patiently as he only needs one goal to put his team ahead, so don't be surprised if we see very few goals in this match.
