The upcoming 27th round of the German Bundesliga brings the top clash between Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen.
Borussia Dortmund is in the race for the Europe League starting places on the pole position. It´s a matter of sink or swim, analyzing the past results for side of coach Jürgen Klopp. In the nine games after winter break Dortmund celebrated five wins, but also came off four times as a loser from the pitch. The last draw is four months ago, as they did it at home against promoter Mainz 05 (0:0). After all, the Champions League-winner of 1997 won last two matches, and especially the goal difference of 7:1 is impressing.
Just three games, Bayer Leverkusen did not win (of which only one lost), the whole Bundesliga imputed them with a crisis. Last Sunday the win against Hamburger SV caused a double relief. On the one hand, the young team of coach Jupp Heynckes managed the turnaround, on the other one they could keep a direct competitor to the Champions League starting place apart. Before the fight with the next chaser the statistics don't bode well for the ‘Werksclub': Bayer's last win in Dortmund been a while (2:1 on 17th December 2006).
