The
UEFA Europa League quarterfinal brings on Thursday the fixture between
Fulham FC and
VfL Wolfsburg. This meeting will be for both clubs their first UEFA club competition quarterfinal and so something special.
The English Premier League club Fulham FC has started the competition in the 3rd qualifying round. On their road to the UEFA Europa League group stage they eliminated FK Vetra (3:0, 3:0) and FK Amkar Perm (3:1, 0:1). Then Fulham FC finished the group stage behind AS Roma as second and qualified therewith for the knock-out stage. In the round of 32 Fulham beat last years UEFA Cup winner Shakhtar Donetsk (2:1, 1:1) and in the round of 16 they eliminated Juventus Turin (1:3, 4:1) and advanced so for their first UEFA club competition quarterfinal. Fulham have won their last three European home fixtures and they are unbeaten at home in this European season (6-1-0). In the Premier League table Fulham faces rank 12, the last round brought a 0:2 defeat at Hull City.
In contrast to Fulham VfL Wolfsburg has started this European season in the UEFA Champions League. The German champions finished Group B behind Manchester United and CSKA Moskva and advanced as third to the UEFA Europa League Round of 32. In the first knock out round the Wolves beat Villarreal CF with a 2:2 draw in Spain and a 4:1 home win. The next round brought an exciting duel with Rubin Kazan. At the end Wolfsburg eliminated Kazan after extra time (1:1, 2:1 a.e.t.). VfL Wolfsburg´s away balance in the running European season: 1 win, 2 draws, 2 defeats. In the German Bundesliga VfL Wolfsburg faces rank 9, the last round brought a 2:0 away win at FSV Mainz 05.
