Arsenal took a major blow on Wednesday when an in-form Tottenham Hotspurs virtually eliminated the Gunners from the title race. The same team that killed their hopes may have revived them when
Harry Redknapp's men took down number one Chelsea last night at White Hart Lane. If the Gunners get all 3 points from Wigan on Sunday they will trail Chelsea by only 3 and United by 2. History does them a service as the Latics have never managed to defeat Arsenal in the Premiership.
Robin Van Persie is finally fit and made his debut from the bench against Spurs. Though he did not manage to score he had two very impressive shots that immediately reminded Gunners fans what they have been missing this season. Wenger could start the Dutch striker in a last ditch effort to win the remaining games and pressure the top sides.
Wigan are only 4 points above the drop zone but have still pulled off some impressive victories this season. Liverpool, Chelsea and Aston Villa all fell victim to the Latics and in each case Colombian striker
Hugo Rodallega was in the center of action. A victory against visiting Arsenal would give both crucial points and another impressive scalp.
Roberto Martinez will be aware of upcoming fixtures with relegation rivals West Ham United and Hull City and will not want his side to fall back into danger. Wigan are now three matches without a win and last week's 0-0 draw against relegation-elect Portsmouth will not do much for the players' confidence.
Watching Van Persie on Wednesday should be enough to see the young striker is hungry to make an impact before the end of the season and this summer's World Cup. Wigan has only allowed an average 1.18 goals at home this season but Van Persie's talent can not be underestimated.
