In the last test match before the FIFA World Cup 2010 Germany meets on Thursday in the Commerzbank-Arena in Frankfurt the national team of Bosnia-Herzegovina. In the course of this international friendly, DFB team manager Joachim Löw tries to find final conclusions about his possible World Cup starting eleven.
Germany starts on 13th of June with the game against Australia in the World Cup tournament. Previously, the DFB side contest on this Thursday another friendly match against Bosnia-Herzegovina before on 6th June, the trip to South Africa begins. In the test match against Bosnia it's not only a question to find out the possible starting lineup for the first group match against Australia, but to be spared in particular from further injuries. Apart from captain Michael Ballack had already canceled Simon Rolfes, Rene Adler and Christian Träsch their World Cup participation because of injury. Unfortunately, on past Saturday also Heiko Westermann has been injured. The 27-year-old defender suffered in a 3:0 win in the friendly against Hungary a scaphoid fracture in left foot and therefore misses the World Cup. Positive was the play of Sami Khedira, who could slip in the World Cup in the midfield in the role of Ballack. Although Khedira only played in the first 45 minutes, this was not due to his performance, but a precautionary measure.
In spite of good performance Bosnia-Herzegovina couldn't qualify for the FIFA 2010 World Cup in South Africa. The Bosnians were playing in the UEFA qualifying group 5 together with Spain, Turkey, Belgium, Estonia and Armenia and reached with six wins, one draw and three defeats the second place. Only European champion Spain was out of reach for the Bosnian national team. In the play-offs, Bosnia-Herzegovina came to Portugal and been beaten twice with the same score of 0:1. Even Wolfsburg striker Edin Džeko scored nine goals in the qualifying round and was therefore second best scorer in the entire European qualifiers. In the ten group matches Bosnia-Herzegovina scored 25 goals.
