In group G the topgame will be held on the last gameday at the end of the group stage! Both teams could show some good effort during the first two games. The topfavourite for the worldcup title Brazil won their first game against Northern Korea with 2:1 but Brazil need a long time at the game to find their game. Portugal started with a goalless draw against the Ivory Coast.
At the second round of Group G Brazil faced Ivory Coast and could win a very hard game with 3:1 and fixed the qualification for the next round early. The only downer of the game was an injuriy of their midfielder Elano who left the game after a hard tackling after 67 minutes.
Portugal celebrated a high scoring game against Northern Korea. After they faced a very hard start into the game Portugal take the lead during the first half (1:0) and after the break Portugal could take another 6 goal for a undisputed 7:0 victory. Also Cristiano Ronaldo scored for his nation after a 16 month break.
The initial position before the third game:
Permutations
- Brazil have qualified for the Round of 16. A win or draw against Portugal in their final game would secure top spot in the group, whereas a defeat would send them through in second.
- Portugal need a draw against Brazil to qualify in second place, while a win would take them through in first.
- Côte d’Ivoire’s goal difference is -2, compared to Portugal’s +7. As a result, the Africans need a big win over Korea DPR and a Brazil victory over Portugal, hoping that they can score enough goals and the Portuguese concede enough to overcome their nine-goal deficit.
- Korea DPR can no longer reach the knockout phase.
