3rd round CL-qualification: Young Boys Bern - Fenerbahce Istanbul

Football - Qualification Champions League - 2010-07-28
Match preview

In the 3rd round of Champions League qualification the Swiss runners-up Young Boys Bern will play the Turkish runners-up Fenerbahce Istanbul on Wednesday evening.

The Young Boys had a disappointing start into the new season. After they couldn't beat the promoted FC Thun, they played only 1:1 at home against FC Luzern last Saturday. The team hasn't overcome the loss of two of their key players (Yapi, Doumbia) and seems to have problems to score. Last year YBB failed Europa League qualification when twice beaten by Atletico Bilbao.

After Fenerbahce Istanbul has missed the title, they invested another 14 million Euro so far (Dia, Stoch, Erkin). Now they have a squad full of international top players (Lugano, Alex, Güiza, Emre etc.) that has to qualify for the Champions League. Last season the Turks were knocked out in Europa League by OSC Lille and dropped out in the Champions League group stage the season before. The game in Bern will be the first official match of the season for Fenerbahce.

Betting tip/prediction

Young Boys already played two official matches and have home advantage. But Fenerbahce clearly has the better individual players and should manage a favourable situation for the re-match in Istanbul.
