3rd qualifying round: SK Rapid Wien - PFK Beroe Stara Zagora

Football - Uefa - Europa League - 2010-08-03
Match preview

The third qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League brings on Tuesday the second leg between SK Rapid Wien and PFK Beroe Stara Zagora. The first leg in Bulgaria ended with a 1:1 draw. Steffen Hofmann has scored the 1:0 for Rapid (45.), five minutes before the end of regular time Vladislav Zlatinov scored the 1:1.

Rapid Wien´s start in the season was anything but good. They have lost the first two games in the tipp3-Bundesliga – 0:4 at FC Wacker Innsbruck and 1:2 at home against SC Magna Wr. Neustadt. On Sunday Rapid celebrated their first win in the national championship with 2:1 over Red Bull Salzburg through goals from Saurer and Hofmann. Rapid´s performance in the second qualifying round against FK Suduva was just moderate, but Rapid advanced with two wins to the next round (2:0 in Marijampole, 4:2 in Vienna).

The Bulgarian cup-winner PFK Beroe Stara Zagora started the season with the 1:1 against Rapid. It was their only regular match in this season so far. Beroe´s opener fixture in the national championship at OFC Sliven has been cancelled. For coach Ilian Iliev the Europa League fixture at Rapid Wien have the highest priority.

Conditions/Referee

For Tuesday evening are forecast light clouds and 20°C in Vienna. Perfect weather for football and I think no advantage for any team. Rapid counts as home strong, their fans are the 12th man. The fixture against Beroe will be probably sold out. So I see here pros for the home team. Referee will be Menashe Masiah from Israel.
